Summary: The Civil Mediation council Conference was held at the Senate House, University of London. The Board welcomed The Reverend Mpho Tutu as the keynote speaker and Peter Adler who gave the afternoon keynote. Vice Chair, Bill Wood QC lead a discussion about the CMC's consultation exercise on registration/accreditation of individual mediators and mediation training providers. More details and a consultation form is available on the civilmediation.org web site. A wide range of conversations with practitioners new and seasoned and interviews with The Reverend Mpho Tutu, Peter Adler, Sir Alan Ward the new CMC Chair and Jon Siddall, the new CEO. Sir Alan was born and raised in South Africa and practiced as an Attorney of the Supreme Court. In 1961, he moved to England to take a second degree, reading law at Cambridge. He was called to the bar (Gray's Inn) in 1964 and was appointed a High Court judge in October 1988 and was assigned to the Family Division. In 1995, he was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal and retired 15 February 2013 enabling him to join the CMC. A long time supporter of mediation, Sir Alan recently said ‘I am utterly convinced mediation has an increasing part to play in providing civil justice.
